In August, the North Coast Pipe Band took the challenge of leaving familiar territory in the U.S. to compete at the 2010 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. The weather was unpredictable, the competition was stiff and the food was disgusting. We set off for battle, to play like warrior poets among the mass of more than 40 bands, competing for a spot in the finals. Our sound was strong and we played in unison with a performance at the highest caliber. We competed for more than a title. We competed to challenge ourselves, and in that moment, we earned the respect as a North American band to be reckoned with.
